Your customer uploads a photo of their balcony, marks the area — and immediately sees how your perforated metal sheet will look there. In their desired color, with their desired pattern, to scale.

In the end, you'll receive a complete quote request: including dimensions, material, sample, color, photo, and final installation. Instead of a phone call asking about the approximate cost.

This is not a video or a click dummy , but the fully functional application. Try it out—a photo of any surface is sufficient; a balcony is not necessary.

This is how it works for your customer

  1. upload a photo — directly with the phone's camera or from the gallery. The image remains on the user's device.
  2. Choose Option — Privacy screen or cladding, front, side or U-shape, panel or cassette.
  3. Enter dimensions — in millimeters, with plausibility check. For U-shaped shapes, three width fields appear automatically.
  4. Choose material, hole pattern and color — via image tiles instead of technical terms.
  5. Mark area — drag four corner points onto the photo; the pattern will be fitted in perspective.
  6. Send Request — with contact details, and sketches or drawings upon request.

The whole process takes about two minutes and works the same on a mobile phone as on a computer.

How your business benefits

Craft businesses waste time on incomplete inquiries. "I'd like something for my balcony" leads to three phone calls before any cost estimate can even be provided. The configurator reverses this: What comes in is already complete.

Without configurator With configurator
"How much does a balcony privacy screen cost?" Design, dimensions, material, pattern, color, quantity and location are available.
Two to three follow-up questions by phone Offer directly calculable
The customer doesn't know what it will look like. The customer has seen his result and wants it again.
Inquiries are scattered throughout the inbox. Each request has its own number in the backend; nothing gets lost.

For every inquiry, you'll receive the customer's photo and the finished installation as images—you can see at a glance what your customer envisions. This often allows you to prepare a quote after the initial contact.

What your end customer benefits from this

  • He sees his own object, not a stranger's model home in the brochure.
  • He doesn't need any specialist knowledge. In the trade, these hole patterns are called RV 5-8 or QG 8-12 — in the configurator they are PHOTOS clickable.
  • No sales pressure. There is no shopping cart and no checkout, only a non-binding inquiry.
  • He receives his preview via email. and can watch them in peace with the family.

Which industries is this suitable for?

The technology behind it isn't limited to balconies. It's suitable anywhere a product is applied to an existing structure and the customer wants to know how it will look beforehand.

  • Metal construction and locksmithing — Privacy screens, facade cassettes, perforated sheets, railings, gates, fences
  • sunscreen — Awnings, Venetian blinds, roller shutters, patio roofs
  • Gardening and landscaping — Privacy screens, fences, gabions, paved areas
  • Windows and doors — Front doors at one's own house entrance, window fronts
  • Interior Design — Acoustic panels, wall coverings, tile backsplashes
  • Painter and facade — Facade colors on your own house instead of on a color fan
  • Floor coverings — Parquet, tiles, carpet in your own room
  • Solar — Module placement on your own roof area

The architecture is data-driven: patterns, colors, and query steps are stored as maintainable data, not in the program code. A second configurator for another product line is therefore not a separate project, but a fraction of it.

We have already built configurators of this type for very different product ranges: an article configurator for personalized chocolates and cake toppers at the chocolate printing company in WooCommerce and a card designer for the Wimmer printing company in Magento 2.

The technology behind it

  • WordPress plugin using WooCommerce as a data model — without Sales function: no prices, no shopping cart, no checkout.
  • Runs in the browserWithout an external service. No data is transferred to third parties.
  • The photo remains on the customer's device until it is sent. During the transfer, metadata including GPS coordinates is removed — otherwise, balcony photos would reveal the home address.
  • Scale representation: Every hole pattern has its physical size. A 5 mm hole remains a 5 mm hole, whether the area is 60 cm or 4 m wide.
  • Gaps for automatic price calculation and, if desired, for actual sales.
  • Accessible: Operable via keyboard, usable with screen reader, touch targets from 44 pixels.

Also for Shopware, Magento and Shopify

The demo on this page runs in WordPress with WooCommerce as the data model. However, the configurator is not tied to a specific shop system : the query logic, the perspective photo preview, and the request process all operate in the browser and communicate with the shop only via its interface. This means it can be implemented in all four systems we support.

  • WordPress and WooCommerce — as a plugin, as in this demo. Materials, patterns, and colors are stored as WooCommerce data; each request receives its own number in the backend.
  • Shopware 6 — as a separate extension with a storefront template and module in the administration. The selection is made from properties and variants; the request is sent to the Shopware backend.
  • Magento 2 — as an update-resistant module under app/code. Attributes and attribute sets provide the selection; the request is processed as an operation in the administration.
  • Shopify — as a theme extension with an app block. Variants and meta fields carry the selection; the request runs via the storefront interface.

What your customer sees remains the same in all four cases: the same user interface, the same true-to-scale preview, and the same handling of the uploaded photo. What differs is the integration with inventory management , pricing, and the ordering process—these depend on your system. Tell us what your shop runs on, and we'll tell you what the effort and timeline will be.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an online shop for that?

No. The configurator collects inquiries; it doesn't sell anything. WooCommerce works invisibly in the background as a database for materials, patterns, and colors. Your visitors won't see prices or a shopping cart.

Does this work on mobile?

Yes, and that's the main focus. Most customers photograph their balcony with their mobile phone and configure it directly there. When selecting the area, a magnifying glass appears under the finger so that the corner isn't obscured by the thumb.

What happens to the uploaded photo?

The file initially remains in the customer's browser and is only transmitted upon submission. On the server, metadata is removed, the file is placed in a protected area with a randomly generated filename, and is only accessible to logged-in employees. It is automatically deleted after a configurable period.

Can the configurator also display prices?

Yes, that's prepared, but deactivated by default. Prices per square meter for each material, surcharges for special colors and hole patterns can be added without rebuilding the configurator. Many companies deliberately start without prices because custom orders have to be calculated anyway.

How long will the implementation take?

For a request without a photo preview, we estimate four to six weeks; with a photo preview, approximately eight weeks. The timeline depends primarily on how quickly sample images and color lists are available.

How much does such a configurator cost?

A guided inquiry process with image selection starts at around €4.750 net. With the photo preview, as you see here, the price range is approximately €9.000 to €12.000 net. A second configurator for another product line then costs only a fraction of that, because the technology is already in place.

Will this also work with my existing theme?

Yes. The configurator has its own design and is protected from theme interference. It runs on a regular page and is integrated via a keyboard shortcut. Tested with The7 and Avada, among others.

Is the configurator also available for Shopware, Magento, or Shopify?

Yes. This demo runs on WordPress with WooCommerce, but the technology isn't tied to that. A separate extension is being developed for Shopware 6 , a module under app/code for Magento 2 , and a theme extension with an app block for Shopify . The user interface and photo preview remain the same; the integration with inventory management, pricing, and the order process differs.

Interested in a configurator for your product range?

Tell us which product your customers would like to see before buying — we'll tell you if and how that can be implemented. A short phone call is usually enough to outline the parameters.
